The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, known as ICANN, is the company that is responsible for domain name registration system. Nowadays, acquiring domain names is very difficult as they are usually taken by hosting sites for selling. ICANN should develop a protocol in such a way that registrations should be controlled where there should be expiration dates (after a short period like one month - “Auto Cancellation”) for unused inactive sites like the reservation system in hotel or ticket booking agencies. Indication of active sites would be ftp transfers or domain control panel file transfers from the owner’s specified IP. Owner’s information along with the IP address should be submitted to ICANN and they should develop an algorithm that they would be notified for every file transfer traffic (from owner to the hosting site - using the submitted IP address) which is an indication that the file transfer was done by the site owner. The number of domain names registered by the hosting site (within the IP range of the hosting company) classified as inactive should also be limited. Automated file transfer traffic programs created by the domain host should be nullified of acquiring the site’s name. With the protocol, then there is a high probability of getting the preferred site name.
